Chelan Career Counselor

“My name is Amy Andrews and I hail from good old Spokane, Washington. I grew up with one brother, who graduated from WSU with a degree in hospitality. My mom and stepdad currently live in Spokane, and I visit them often to adventure, enjoy good food and fires, and run Bloomsday. I received my degree at Western Washington University in Bellingham, majoring in Human Services, which ended up being the perfect degree for me, as I absolutely love working with humans in all capacities. It was an amazing program, which included internships, and I even got to practice building and creating a non-profit from the ground up. I am very proud of the education I received at WWU. Since then, I have held a variety of jobs, from corporate working as an activity director at a retirement home, to teaching yoga, to now owning my own business here in Chelan. I value working with and connecting with people, creating efficiency in the workplace, and having lots of FUN.

I stumbled upon the Career Center job by accident. I was working for the Chelan Middle School Afters Program and had a colleague encourage me to apply. Little did I know I was stepping into the absolute perfect role for me. This past year has been one of the most rewarding work experiences of my life. I get to build relationships with students, staff, and community members in Chelan. I get to share my experiences and give advice to students who are unsure of what to do next. My previous work history and experience have given me the ability to relate to many different types of students as well. I originally wanted to major in English in college, so that has come in handy as I’ve poured over quite possibly hundreds of scholarship applications. I also get to have FUN! We hosted an adventure kick off this year, complete with a sparkly red carpet and fun songs. We made a Senior Celebration wall posting where students got accepted to school and their accomplishments like starting businesses. It’s been so rewarding to watch these students grow and change and learn to navigate life, and I hope I am lucky enough to do this job for many years to come.”
